Research Assistant/Associate, Biology, Ecology, Research Scientist
Position Summary
Natural Heritage New Mexico (NHNM) is looking for students who are passionate about biological conservation to research, enter and update data in our rare species database and assist with conservation related research. The job includes analyzing data sources, entering data into databases, mapping locations of rare species with ArcGIS, quality checking data, and research on New Mexico plants and animals. There may also be opportunities to assist occasionally with field data collection during summer months.
NHNM student technicians receive on the job training in ecological research, GIS, and data management through relational databases. There is potential for expanded job duties as skills are mastered. The successful candidates’ work with NHNM will aid and support wildlife managers throughout New Mexico and the region. Hours are flexible.
- Biology background desired; conservation biology preferred.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and databases (e.g., Microsoft Access, SQL) or other data entry.
- Ability to organize and give attention to detail.
- Be responsible, self‑disciplined, and self‑motivated.
