Job Summary

A host, or cashier, is responsible for welcoming customers to a food service environment and ensuring that they are seated and receive attentive service. Their duties include maintaining a waitlist of patrons during busy meal service, passing out menus, and accepting phone calls.

Responsibilities
  • Welcoming guests to the venue
  • Greeting guests as they enter and putting them on a waiting list as necessary.
  • Providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions.
  • Seating guests at tables or in waiting areas.
  • Assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers.
  • Engaging with guests to ensure they’re happy with food and service.
  • Responding to complaints and helping to resolve them.
  • Managing transactions with customers using cash registers.
  • Collecting payments whether in cash or credit.
Qualifications
  • Must be 16 years old and meet any other state age or labor requirements.
  • No one under the age of 18 may operate, clean, adjust or touch a slicer or mixer.

Nature and Scope of Position

Demonstrates a passion to serve by being attentive to guest needs at all times. Ensure tables are clean, set, and ready at all times.

Essential Functions
  • Accurately handle guest payment for meals, whole pies, and retail.
  • Exhibits integrity in all actions by ensuring the cash drawer balances at the end of the shift.
  • Consistently answer the telephone, identifying self and restaurant, speaking clearly and in a sincere manner. Take to‑go orders, message and transfer calls to the appropriate parties.
  • Promptly handles guest complaints using the Service Recovery Steps. Notifies manager in a timely manner so that the complaint can be handled prior to the guest departure.
  • Keep dining room and front lobby clean, including floors, windows, and seats in waiting area.
  • Clean and stock host service area, including menus, pie boxes, pie display case, etc.
  • Complete opening and/or closing duties.
  • Assist servers and bussers as requested.
  • Enthusiastically acknowledge guest with the company’s five‑foot rule.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Successful completion of required training program, including watching videos, completing on‑the‑job checklists and written quizzes.

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Must be able to follow menu specifications and recipes, read tickets, and maintain an organized and sanitary work area.
  • Must be able to follow directions, work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure customer‑responsive environment.
