Range Science/ Plant Science Field Data Collection Assistant
OverviewZia Engineering & Environmental Consultants, LLC has a need to fill one position for a two-person team to collect range, pasture, and BLM lands data for natural resources inventories (NRI) for the USDA-NRCS. The period of performance is May 2026 – September 2026 and will involve fieldwork during the summer heat.
Location and ScheduleNew Mexico statewide; primary team in Las Cruces, NM. Position is part-time/on-call with travel that includes local day trips and overnight stays up to 5 nights. Per diem and lodging expenses are paid by Zia. Vehicles are provided; a valid driver’s license is required.
ResponsibilitiesCollect range, pasture, and BLM lands data for natural resources inventories (NRI) following USDA-NRCS guidelines.
Qualifications- Doctoral or Bachelor’s degree in Range Management or related discipline preferred; or coursework with a minimum of 15 hours in soil genesis, pedology, soil chemistry, soil physics, and soil fertility.
- Working knowledge of Range Science/Plant Science and field data collection; experience in western states.
- Native plant identification, soil science, GPS equipment, field data recording instruments/computers, compass, clinometers, and other equipment.
- Comfortable with outdoor field work and knowledgeable of NRI grazing land field protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to secure and maintain a government security clearance.
- Overnight travel required.
