The chemistry department is responsible for the support of the manufacturing department and external customers. The functions of the laboratory are testing raw materials, in-process, end product, and stability samples. The department also performs particulate testing and tests plant water for production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in performing laboratory testing tasks using equipment such as balances, pipettes, pH meter, UV/Visible spectrophotometer, Total Organic Carbon analyzer, IR, HPLC, etc. Acts as subject matter expert for testing, troubleshooting complex problems. Performs data review.
  • Provides correction of errors and good documentation coaching. Interacts with outside departments including attending meetings, providing updates, etc. Coordinate testing performed at outside testing labs, raw materials, etc.
  • Provides training. Maintain a detailed and accurate recording of activities and results on paperwork. Executes, authors, and reviews protocols, reports, PR investigations, change controls, and data summaries.
  • Perform department review of problem reports. Understand and use basic risk assessment and root cause tools. Train upon and understand methods, equipment, and standard operating procedures.
  • Train others on product testing tasks. Attend internal and external training on related subjects. Maintain laboratory equipment, including sanitization of clean areas.
  • Prepare and order supplies, as necessary. Evaluate new lab equipment. Enter data into relevant data management systems.
  • Perform tracking and trending of data as requested. Compile data and provide data summaries to management. Have a thorough understanding of regulatory and compliance guidelines for the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Participate in both intra- and inter-departmental cross-training on new techniques and procedures. Participate in or leads cross-functional teams, including continuous improvement projects and new customer teams. Leads departmental projects.
  • Conduct audit tours, interfaces with customers. Interact with other departments within the company for testing needs and schedules. Must be able to perform aseptic gowning with materials required to enter the aseptic processing area
  • Read/interpret SOPs to ensure compliance
  • Maintain up to date trainings
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or relevant physical science
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or related industry
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a leadership role

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role is responsible for leading and supporting a team, overseeing day-to-day operations, managing departmental goals, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures. This role also involves fostering a positive work environment, providing guidance and support to your team members, and evaluating performance to drive continuous improvement and achieve both departmental and organizational objectives.
