SummaryThe Employee Investigator I is a credentialed employee responsible for conducting federal background investigations in direct support of national security and suitability investigations and in compliance with the National Training Standards (NTS), the Federal Investigative Standards (FIS) and all other applicable federal regulations. A successful Employee Investigator I must follow ADC LTD NM and PSID policies and procedures and meet the following expectations.
Essential Tasks (minimum requirements) to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Model ADC LTD NM’s core values, policies and procedures and ensure that the same are supported at all times.
- Conduct fieldwork, including interviews and record checks, to produce reports of investigations (ROIs).
- Accept fieldwork assignments for travel throughout the geographic area of responsibility.
- Temporary duty yonder (TDY) assignments may be required outside of geographic area.
- Complete priority and expedited leads by request.
- Maintain a working knowledge of agency guidance and transmittals.
- Meet quality standards and investigative deadlines as assigned by ADC LTD NM.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communications skills and exhibit professional demeanor in a time sensitive work environment.
- Monitor, maintain, convey and appropriately safeguard and destroy data and documents. Meet government and industry standards for quality, integrity, timeliness and productivity.
- Maintain compliance with all mandatory and assigned training, security clearance, and credential requirements.
- Obtain necessary documentation and/or credentials for the purpose of conducting welfare checks on investigators as assigned.
- Develop and maintain professional, courteous, and cooperative working relationships with all ADC LTD NM employees, vendors and contractors.
- Quickly troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Report trends and updates to work environment observed in the field.
- Request training as needed from their supervisor or ADC LTD NM Training Department.
- Assist with projects and process improvement at the direction of their supervisor.
- Coordinate with ADC LTD NM personnel as necessary.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Completes all assigned leads.
- Complete, at a minimum, 40 scoped hours of background investigation work per week.
- Close no more than 8% of all case parts late.
- Fewer than 2% of all case parts contain significant adjudicative deficiencies.
- Adapts to changing tasks and situations in the field.
- Uses problem‑solving techniques and strategies when faced with field issues.
- Cooperates and shows initiative to pursue assigned tasks and meet personal goals.
- Maintains an open line of communication regarding tasks and objectives.
- Remains in compliance with training, security, and credential requirements.
- Abides by all relevant policies, laws, federal standards, and federal agency requirements.
- Minimum of one year specialized federal background investigative experience; or two years relevant background investigative experience; or three years general investigative experience (i.e. military, local, state or Federal law enforcement or investigative functions).
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in common workplace hardware and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and computer databases.
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
- Strong analytical skills and detail‑oriented.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including highly technical writing, proofreading, and editing.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Extensive knowledge of ADC LTD NM contracts and contractual requirements.
