ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform a variety of construction tasks involved in the renovation of wooden, concrete, brick or metal City buildings including rough and finish carpentry, masonry, block laying, painting, plumbing, basic electrical, minor welding, plastering, roofing, tiling, fence installation and sheetrock work.
- Perform interior and exterior rough carpentry for buildings, parks and facilities; frame building additions, stairs and ramps.
- Construct cement structures and facilities including forms for sidewalks, drive pads, fence posts, gates, gutters, curbs, steps, walks, ramp landings; pour, level and finish cement.
- Read and follow blueprints, sketches and diagrams to ensure project specifications are met.
- Repair and remodel building interiors; install ceramic floor tiles, carpet and sheet vinyl; install paneling; repair, tape, texture and paint sheetrock.
- Construct high-tensile fencing, chain link fencing and other fencing as required; operate hydraulic and power equipment.
- Install and repair wood and metal doors, frames and windows; adjust or replace hinges, high security locksets and cores.
- Perform finish carpentry; construct office furniture, cabinets, desks, shelving, conference tables, picture frames, ceiling and doors.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Perform project lead supervision and training of laborers or helpers to accomplish construction tasks.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours of specialized training in construction, carpentry, plumbing, or welding; and
Two (2) years general construction experience.
Additional RequirementsPossession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
EnvironmentalField and construction site environment; travel from site to site; work around traffic and construction equipment; exposure to fumes, dust, noise and inclement weather conditions.
PhysicalEssential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking, crouching, bending, and climbing for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; operating motorized vehicles and equipment.
