Position Summary
Participate in the Hospitals Life Safety planning, systems, operations and testing. Coordinate the installation, maintenance and modifications on the Hospitals Life Safety systems. Provide answers of a technical nature to contractors while construction is in progress. Perform Life Safety systems tests, maintenance and repairs to ensure successful systems operation and integration. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
DetailedResponsibilities
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Maintain, repair, test, monitor and modify Hospitals networked, addressable fire alarm system to sustain building operations, Life Safety systems and suppression systems
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Determine nature of system malfunctions and initiate action or provide information to resolve and/or modify operating parameters
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Install system components, program, test and maintain fire alarm and life safety systems; monitor system operation and performance
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Determine compatibility of fire alarm devices (power supplies, cables, smoke detectors, interface modules, manual pull stations) with existing building systems
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Determine locations and appropriate fire alarm input and output devices to meet State, County and NFPA Codes
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Troubleshoot system malfunctions, repairs and replace components to restore system to fully compliant operations promptly
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Maintain Network Command Center computer systems; modify system hardware and software programs to meet operational requirements
- LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS - Maintain and update diagrams, prints, drawings, and schematics of system expansions and modifications
- STANDARDS - Develop and implement work standards to ensure Life Safety effectiveness and in compliance with TJC Environment of Care guidelines
- REPORTS - Prepare periodic reports for Administration, Finance or others as required regarding utilities, water and sewer usage; report regularly on work orders and action plans, departmental operational expenses and staff-hour usage
- INSPECTIONS - Perform Life Safety systems recurring maintenance and inspections; plan, prioritize and oversee repairs, renovation, and new construction minimizing disruption of operations; make various inspections
- SERVICE - Attend and serve on professional/civic service organizations as a UNM Hospitals representative
- COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS - Participate in hospital/medical staff meetings and committees as required
- DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
Education:
- Essential: High School or GED Equivalent
- Nonessential: Associate Degree
- Nonessential: Education specialization:
Related Discipline
- Essential: 4 years directly related experience
- Nonessential: 4 years directly related experience
- Essential: NICET in Fire Prot Eng Tech/Alarm Sys or equiv w/in 1 year
- Nonessential: NICET in Fire Protection Engineering Tech/Fire Alarm Systems
Medium Work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
