Description:
The Manufactured Housing Division under the Manufactured Housing Act and Administrative Code is the inspection authority for manufactured housing in New Mexico. Our mission is to foster a strong manufactured housing industry and provide consumer protection for manufactured housing owners in New Mexico by:
- Providing thorough inspections of manufactured housing installations and alterations
- Working with industry contractors through outreach and news publications
- Working with manufacturers through construction process monitoring
- Working with dealers through auditing and inspections of homes
- Working with the Manufactured Housing Committee on rules and regulations

Why does the job exist?This position will conduct independent inspections on Manufactured Home installations to include foundations, support systems, anchoring, sewer connection, water connection, gas installation, electrical feeder and perimeter enclosures (skirting). By conducting field inspections, the inspector will protect health, safety and welfare while implementing initiatives aimed at reducing administrative delay in the licensing and regulatory process. This position will cover the San Juan, Cibola, Sandoval, Colfax and McKinley areas.
Howdoes it get done?
This position will use provided technology to perform efficient inspection services, reports and maintain the highest degree of professionalism and customer service. The inspector will efficiently review plans and conduct inspections to ensure that manufactured homes are completed and installed within all applicable federal and state laws.
Must be able to regularly/daily operate a provided state vehicle for purposes of essential travel to/from inspection sites and other locations as necessary to carry out the duties of the position.
Who are the customers?This position is meant to protect the constituents of New Mexico, including homeowners, general public and the manufactured housing industry.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate would be someone who exceeds the minimum qualifications, has national residential certifications, knowledge of permitting and inspection software, working knowledge of database, Word, Excel and Microsoft Office, be bilingual, and ideally live in or around the San Juan or McKinley County.
If not already certified in a specialty as set out below, each Inspector must pass the examination of a national certifying organization recognized by the Construction Inspection Division within one (1) year of employment; and each Inspector must then remain certified by such certifying organization in at least one (1) of the following specialties:
- MHD Inspector requires two (2) years of experience in the field of Manufactured Home Repair, Construction, Servicing, Installation and/or Building, Mechanical or Electrical Trades; or two (2) years of experience as a Construction Inspector.
Must possess and maintain a defensive driver's certificate and a valid driver's license. Must be able to pass a preemployment background check.
Working ConditionsManufactured Housing Inspectors must conduct field inspections in all weather conditions, substantial time driving in a vehicle, crawl, bend and lift up to 50 pounds. This position interacts with the public on a daily basis.

Bargaining Unit PositionThis position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
