About This Role

Fiber Tel is looking for an Aerial Lineman for our Albuquerque, NM location. Candidates must have knowledge of aerial cable installation procedures, including pole and anchor placement, safe handling of hand tools and equipment, and the ability to read and interpret construction maps and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

All phases of telecommunication construction include but are not limited to: loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of various types, sizes, and weights of construction materials and equipment.

  • Install and repair aerial telecommunications cable.
  • Safely use hand tools and equipment such as wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, climbing hooks, and more.
  • Safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, excavators, and more.
  • Set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
  • Flag traffic when required.
  • Understand separation and clearance regulations.
  • Operate safely aloft using climbing hooks and ladders.
  • Show flexibility to work at multiple locations.
Qualifications
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Maintain a good driving record.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to operate utility trucks and equipment safely.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to use hand tools safely.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is required.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Capable of climbing telephone poles and working aloft up to 40 feet.
  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous construction experience, preferably in telecommunications.
  • Can perform all duties in telecommunications construction (pole transfers, maintenance builds, new builds, cable installation, over‑lash, strand construction).
  • Ability to travel.
Working Conditions

This full‑time hourly position requires at least 40 hours per week. The job is performed outdoors and includes exposure to varying weather conditions—extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind—as well as changes in terrain, traffic, and settings. The role may involve occasional exposure to natural gas, electrical shock risk, and moderate to loud noise.

Physical Requirements

Stand for long periods (up to 12 hours), tolerate extreme weather, hear and follow safety instructions, and perform lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling. Regularly lift 75 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment.
