The RoleThe Role
The Special Systems Apprentice must learn and possess the skills required to function as a contributing member of a technical team.
What You Will Do- The Special Systems Apprentice will install a work area outlet for floor, modular furniture and wall (terminate CAT 5E and 6 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to ANM labeling standards).
- The Special Systems Apprentice will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
- The Special Systems Apprentice performs testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set.
- The Special Systems Apprentice will identify active voice or data circuits.
- The Special Systems Apprentice will assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
- The Special Systems Apprentice will fully complete all required paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
- The Special Systems Apprentice will adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Notify the Lead Technician of any project delays onsite or issues on the projects so that they can update the project stakeholders.
- Work with the operations team to formulate a plan to minimize the cost impact and bring the project under budget when it is determined that a project is going over budget.
- Low voltage pathway installation
- Installation and pulling communications, security, and DAS cabling.
- Termination, certification and troubleshooting cabling.
- Installation of security and communication equipment and devices.
- Installation of low voltage control panels and power supplies.
- Configuration, and start-up of security systems.
- Installation of door hardware, locks, strikes, request to exit devices.
- The Special Systems Installer will complete other responsibilities as assigned.
- The Special Systems Apprentice must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
- The Special Systems Apprentice must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
- The Special Systems Apprentice must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
