Job Title
Assist assigned plumbers in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures including pipe and gas systems; assist in all types of plumbing and pipe fitting tasks and assist with maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Essential and Supplemental Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist in all types of plumbing and pipe-fitting tasks required in the installation and repair of sprinkler systems, drinking fountains and rest room facilities.Carry material and equipment to the designated location; cut pipes to the correct length using pipe cutters; thread pipe with stock and dies; bend pipe if necessary.Attach required valves, fittings, and controls to repair plumbing and gas systems; pour molten lead over pipe joints to seal them; test pipe system to identify the presence of leaks.Assist with the installation, connection, testing and maintenance of boilers, water heaters, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, cooling towers and steam generators.Lay-out, install and maintain plumbing for water sprinkler systems for parks and playgrounds.Assist with the repair of major plumbing breakdowns such as clogged sewers, drains and fixtures.Participate in the installation and repair of vents and venting needed for water-heating equipment.Monitor boiler controls, evaluate water levels, pressure, and temperature.SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform basic repairs of furnaces, boiler, air-conditioning and refrigeration units.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours vocational training in plumbing, or heating and cooling systems; and One (1) year plumbing or pipe fitting experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Working Conditions
Environmental:
Indoor and outdoor environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, fumes, infectious waste and inclement weather conditions. Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking, crouching, and bending for prolonged periods; light to moderate lifting; and operating motorized vehicles.
