Overview

No two days in the shelter are the same! Gateway West is excited to welcome new Dorm Monitors to the team who model trauma-informed care, reliability and integrity.

LOCATION: 7440 Jim McDowell Road

SCHEDULE - hiring until filled

Pay range $22-$25.30 hourly will depend on the shift

  • Days, 6am-3pm
  • Swing, 2pm-11pm
  • Overnight/Nights, 10pm-7am
  • All shifts include holidays and weekends and are subject to change to meet the needs of shelter operations.

About Gateway West

Gateway West is Albuquerque’s largest shelter
, providing a safe, welcoming environment for men and women experiencing homelessness. On average, we serve 600 guests per night
, with cold winter nights bringing in over 700. Guests receive a warm bed, meals, secure storage, and access to resources that help them move toward safe, stable housing
. Shuttle service is provided daily, and our trauma-informed, low-barrier approach ensures everyone feels supported.

At the core of our work is trauma-informed care and practice. Trauma-informed care is non-judgmental, strengths-based, and human-centered, resulting in more success, engagement, and satisfaction for both guests and the team. As part of the team, you need to understand the critical importance of trauma-informed care. You should recognize and respect the impact of trauma on an individual s experiences and behaviors, and actively implement practices that promote safety, empowerment, and healing.

How you will make an impact

As a Dorm Monitor, you are going to play a key role in fostering a sense of community and respect among guests at Gateway West. You will maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment within the shelter dormitory, overseeing guests activities, ensuring compliance with shelter policies, and providing support to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Responsibilities
  • Resident Supervision:
    Monitor the dormitory area to ensure the safety and well-being of all guests.
  • Conduct regular rounds to check on guests and address any concerns or issues that arise.
  • Enforce shelter policies and procedures regarding behavior, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Night shifts:
    • Announce Curfew:
      Remind guests of curfew time and ensure everyone is inside the dormitory.
    • Lights Out:
      Ensure lights are turned off (except in designated areas) and enforce quiet hours.
    • Perform Rounds:
      Conduct regular walk-throughs of the dormitory to ensure guests are settled, safe, and complying with quiet hours.
Support and Assistance
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to guests, fostering a positive atmosphere.
  • Assist guests with basic needs, including referrals to resources such as job training, medical care, and housing services.
