Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Advocate
Join us in uplifting communities through support, advocacy, and heart! HELP New Mexico’s Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is designed to assist limited-income individuals on their journeys to achieve their educational and employment goals. This happens through an individualized array of supportive services and emergency assistance, so families will have their needs met while education and/or job training is ongoing.
How will you make an impact in this role? You will work under the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program to provide direct support and advocacy services to low-income individuals and families. You will empower clients by connecting them with vital community resources, offering guidance, and helping them overcome barriers to achieve self-sufficiency. You will help to foster a supportive environment that strengthens individuals and communities through education, outreach, and resource coordination.
Who you are:
You are client centered and connected to assist individuals and families connect with essential services like housing, healthcare, and food assistance. You are knowledgeable about the community to raise awareness about available resources and services to ensure the community knows where to find help. You are good with tracking and follow up to ensure client progress, assistance in managing service plans, and following up to ensure clients receive the support they need.
You remain calm in crisis by providing immediate support to clients in urgent or emergency situations, like homelessness or financial instability. You are a valued resource and will connect clients with local community resources and ensuring they receive proper referrals for continued assistance. You are all about the team and excel in working with other staff members, community partners, and organizations to support clients.
Minimum qualifications and competencies:
Education/Background:
High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Social Work, Human Services, etc.) preferred. At least 1 year of experience in social services, case management, or community outreach preferred, but not required. Experience working with low-income individuals or families is a plus. Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (if applicable). Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong time management skills to meet established deadlines. Strong organizational skills and the ability to keep accurate records. Experience using case management software is helpful but not required.
