Role OverviewYou will support people with substance abuse challenges, using crisis intervention and de‑escalation skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. You will help clients move from hopelessness to a place where they are valued and have the potential for a better life.
Primary Accountabilities & Responsibilities- Monitor and observe Sobering Center client behavior and activity to ensure clients are safe, accounted for, and stable.
- Collaborate as part of a multi‑disciplinary team at the Sobering Center.
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all clients at all times.
- Maintain facility cleanliness and organization daily.
- Understand best practices of the helping profession, including self‑disclosure, professional boundaries, and ethics.
- Be trained in crisis de‑escalation.
- Perform client rounding using RFID monitoring technology.
- Ensure clients are safely stabilizing during observation rounds.
- Conduct screenings for participant needs and readiness for change.
- Provide recommendations for referrals based on assessment needs.
- Conduct screenings and assessments with relevant registrations or certifications.
- Coordinate administration of the VI‑SPDAT assessment.
- Provide assistance with transportation and emergency response.
- Client Focus – Establish rapport and relationships using evidence‑based practices and provide compassionate care.
- Problem Solving – Use logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions, looking beyond the obvious and not stopping at the first answer.
- Being Resilient – Rebound from setbacks in a high‑stress environment, handle and manage crises effectively, and maintain stability when faced with conflict.
- Interpersonal Communication – Deliver effective communication with a wide range of audiences, address miscommunication quickly, and convey information clearly.
- Experience monitoring safety and daily activities for SUD clients in a residential setting.
- Demonstrated ability to remain emotionally stable when faced with hostility or aggression.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
- Maintain facility cleanliness using facility standards.
- Years of client monitoring experience working directly with SUD populations: 0–1 year (RS I), 1–2 years (RS II), or 2+ years (RS III).
- Basic academic knowledge and understanding of substance use.
- Pursuing accredited peer support certification or certified peer specialist with New Mexico.
- Must have a New Mexico driver’s license and a good driving record in good standing.
- Fluency in at least one of New Mexico threshold languages (Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Dari, Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, or Diné).
- Salary: $16–$20 per hour, hourly based on experience and qualifications.
