Bus Driver – UNM Parking and Transportation Services

The University of New Mexico Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) is hiring multiple full-time Bus Drivers to join our driving team. Each year, our team safely transports 1.7 million students, faculty, staff, and visitors to and from the University. Bus drivers are a vital part of UNM’s community outreach and public relations efforts as one of the first University representatives encountered by guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive image of the University through professional interactions with passengers and all PATS team members.
  • Operate shuttle buses in accordance with established schedules and safety regulations.

Schedule & Availability:

  • Shuttle Service coverage hours are 6:00 a.m. to 10:20 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Fridays.
  • Must be available for occasional overtime, weekend hours, and coverage during special events.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement is required.
  • As a CDL driver, comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services in patient care or clinical areas are required to comply with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degrees from an accredited institution that exceed the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating large passenger buses (40 feet or greater) with a minimum of 6 months.
  • Experience working within a scheduled transportation system.
  • Recent experience (within the last 5 years) driving large passenger buses.
  • Vehicle maintenance skills: ability to perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections and basic maintenance (oil, fuel, brakes, lights, wipers, water, tire pressures).
  • Recordkeeping: maintains accurate records of work performed and promptly reports accidents or incidents.
  • Professionalism: demonstrates appropriate behavior in a professional working environment and respects all internal and external customers.
  • Policy Adherence: ability to follow all university and PATS policies and procedures.
  • Issue Management: capable of addressing concerns by following the appropriate chain of command.
