Traffic Control Supervisor

Southwest Safety, New Mexico’s fastest growing and most technology‑advanced traffic control company, is looking for Traffic Control Supervisors to lead the charge. Earn $21.00–$28.00 an hour (based on experience) using the latest technology to keep work zones safer. We seek hard‑working, dependable, safety‑oriented team players with positive attitudes to grow our team and maintain client relationships across on‑site traffic control needs.

The Traffic Control Supervisor (“Crew Lead”) works with construction teams to ensure that vehicles and pedestrians do not interfere with, or pose a danger to, laborers and their projects. Candidates must be certified in basic traffic safety techniques and must have demonstrated proficiency as a Traffic Controller. The Crew Lead creates a safe work zone that ensures traffic does not pose a threat to workers by setting up cones, barriers, and signs that guide traffic.

They maintain awareness of construction and traffic activity, and compliance with all safety regulations is mandatory.

The Crew Lead’s principal activities include coordinating with on‑site foremen, performing traffic control and flagging duties at assigned job sites, including setting up, maintaining, and removing temporary work zones, and driving or traveling from the employee’s home to the job site if using a company vehicle. Non‑compensable commuting time is excluded from principal activities.

Responsibilities
  • Be proficient in all Traffic Controller activities.
  • Set up, maintain, and remove temporary work zones, including warning signs and traffic cones, in accordance with ATSSA and DOT regulations.
  • Load and unload work zone equipment to and from the company vehicle at the job site.
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork before leaving the last job site.
  • Wear and maintain proper PPE per company policy.
  • Keep company vehicles clean and orderly and report any safety concerns or vehicle problems.
  • Coordinate work operations with on‑site foreman.
  • Confirm start time and address of the job site or meeting location sent by office scheduler via company app.
  • Drive the company vehicle in a safe manner when commuting, if the employee chooses to use a company vehicle.
  • Read and understand the safety manual and employee handbook.
  • Report to the Field Supervisor.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred; mandatory for employees who use a company vehicle for commuting.
  • Must have a smartphone with internet access for timekeeping and communication to receive work schedule.
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions and tolerate varying climates of heat, cold, and rain.
  • Pass a drug screen prior to employment and maintain a drug‑free status.
  • Be able to stand throughout the entire shift; hand and arm movement is required.
  • The position does not allow for frequent breaks.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Be physically capable of performing all flagging duties.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from job sites.

Schedule
  • 10‑hour shift or 8‑hour shift.
  • Day shift.

Experience
  • Temporary Traffic Control: 2 years.
License/Certification
  • Driver's License.
