Dispatcher - New Mexico Rail Runner Express General Description Essential Functions

The following list of essential functions represents the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a specific function does not prevent management from assigning related duties if they are logically associated with the position.

  • Manage and monitor train schedules to ensure timely operations.
  • Coordinate train meets and passes to optimize network efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to operational emergencies to maintain safety and service continuity.
  • Ensure safe train operations while minimizing delays and disruptions.
  • Allocate track usage for scheduled maintenance and engineering activities.
  • Provide protection and coordination for engineering crews working on or near tracks.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of train movements and maintenance windows.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Additional Requirements

  • This safety-sensitive position requires adherence to railroad operating rules and federal regulations and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FRA guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), railroad operations, and related technologies.
  • Strong computer proficiency for operational and reporting tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of situational awareness and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Commitment to safety in high-stakes operational environments
