Rio Metro RTD Service Worker Supervisor and CDL Examiner General DescriptionThis position oversees the bus fleet maintenance programs for both Valencia and Sandoval counties. The role ensures that all vehicles are maintained to safety, reliability, and regulatory standards while coordinating daily maintenance activities, vendor interactions, and required certifications.
Will complete all required training to become a certified CDL Examiner and maintain certification in good standing.
Essential FunctionsThe following list of essential functions represents the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a specific function does not prevent management from assigning related duties if they are logically associated with the position.
- Oversee and manage fleet maintenance operations for the Valencia and Sandoval bus fleets.
- Obtain and maintain required certifications and/or training, including:
- Braun lift systems
- Aftermarket air-conditioning systems
- Liquid Spring suspension systems
- Video surveillance software
- Service, cleaning and perform minor maintenance, repairs and adjustments on a variety of gasoline motor vehicles and buses and alternative-fueled motor vehicles.
- Operate a variety of motor vehicles and buses.
- Operate a variety of motor vehicles and buses; transport motor vehicles and buses to and from the maintenance facility, dealerships and vendors for preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Wash exterior of buses with high pressure wand or drive buses through automated bus wash.
- Inspect buses for damage and defects; move buses into maintenance bays or parking areas as required.
- Inspect buses to ensure that all required safety equipment is in each bus i.e. fire extinguisher, triangles, first aid kit, etc.
- Check and adjust vehicle fluid levels to ensure proper operating levels of coolant, oil, and transmission fluid.
- May serve as Transit Operator in cases of emergency or in cases of unforeseen staffing shortages.
- Maintains, supports and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Rio Metro’s safety rules, policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- High School Diploma or GED, plus one year of mechanical experience.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license (Class
D) for the past three continuous years. - Must have a good driving record (no DUIs, accidents, WEI convictions and no moving violations).
- Must be able to obtain a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A, B or
C) with passenger (P) endorsement within six weeks from date of hire. - Must be able to maintain CDL once obtained.
- Must successfully complete Maintenance Training.
- Must complete a Rio Metro sponsored CPR/First Aid course within six (6) months of hire.
- Must have satisfactory attendance and work performance records as verified by reference check prior to offer of employment.
- Must successfully pass a drug and alcohol screening prior to employment and random drug testing after employment.
- Must obtain DOT medical certificate and keep current.
- Positions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
- Must have experience and knowledge in the New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License Act; the Motor Carrier Safety Act;
The Motor Vehicle Code;
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation. - Must either have done so or be able to pass the 40-hour approved AAMVA Examiner Training Program and maintain State Certification.
