Job DescriptionTitle: District Wide Gifted and Talented Teacher
Qualifications- Holds a bachelor’s or higher degree (master’s degree preferred) and Kentucky certification for gifted/talented education.
- Has demonstrated ability to plan differentiated instruction for students in regular classroom settings.
- Has extensive knowledge of multiple service options for gifted/talented education.
- Has demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, peers, and adults.
- Has demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community.
Reports To: Associate Superintendent or designee
Job Goal: To assure that all students with high potential (primary talent pool) and students identified as gifted/talented receive services which meet their unique learning needs and enable them to achieve at high levels.
Performance Responsibilities- Communicate with School and District Administrators on a regular basis through email, memos, voicemail, or personal contact.
- Keep master file of all student records of identification, Gifted Student Services Plans, services received, and completed projects.
- Share information about special classes, programs, competitions, and other enrichment opportunities for students with teachers.
- Make counselors aware of students’ special needs.
- Meet with teams/grade levels/individuals to inform them of which students have been identified and to identify appropriate service options and develop the Gifted Student Services Plan.
- Work with school leaders to plan schools’ service options.
- Assist with differentiation of instruction through curriculum compacting, cluster grouping, acceleration, locating mentors, etc.
- Help locate curriculum resources, upon request.
- Research and share information on gifted education.
- Provide staff development, upon request.
- Work with schools to develop a plan for parent communication.
- Assist schools in explaining to parents their child’s record of identification, services available, and the Gifted Students Services Plan.
- Be an advocate for children identified as gifted/talented.
- Perform other duties consistent with the position as may be requested by the Associate Superintendent or designee.
