Louisiana State University of Alexandria is seeking an adjunct in Africana Studies to teach in an online format the following 3 credit course as part of our Bachelor of General Studies in Africana Studies program: AFST 3030 – Black Musical Traditions. This course acts as a survey of Black African musical traditions, examining West & Central African musical ideas and tracing the spread and manifestation of these ideas in the variety of music of the Atlantic World.

• Developing a class syllabus
• Ordering required textbooks before start of class
• Preparing lectures or teaching pdfs and student assignments
• Being available for student conferences
• Presenting instruction based on online course description
• Submitting attendance reporting
• Evaluating student performance on assignments and exams in a timely manner
• Submitting midterm and final grades according to university regulations
• Providing student evaluation of the course
• Building positive rapport with students and faculty

• Ability to instruct online in Moodle (an online course in how to teach online and how to use Moodle may be required)
• Availability for student conferences
• Ability to grade assignments and examinations
