The Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as the primary technical authority for all electrical systems supporting high‑density across Applied Digital’s Data Center portfolio. This role ensures safe, reliable, and resilient operation of mission‑critical electrical infrastructure across the data center lifecycle—from design review and construction through commissioning and steady-state operations. SMEs provide hands‑on expertise, operational leadership, troubleshooting, training, and oversight of both vendors and internal engineering staff.
Key Responsibilities Electrical System Operations & Reliability- Act as the onsite technical expert for LV/MV/HV power distribution, UPS systems, battery systems, switch gear, busway, generators, and power protection systems.
- Oversee electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, retrofits, testing, and repair activities to maintain continuous uptime for critical AI workloads.
- Ensure electrical systems meet all applicable codes, industry standards, and internal safety/compliance programs.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) for events, system failures, and anomalies.
- Author, review, and approve technical procedures including SOPs & MOPs
- Maintain accurate documentation and technical reports detailing electrical system performance, incidents, and improvements.
- Oversee electrical system configuration changes, ensuring integrity and compliance with best practices and change‑control processes.
- Provide SME‑level technical oversight during design review, submittal review, construction, and commissioning for expansion or greenfield AI data center projects.
- Validate designs (SLDs, load lists, redundancy strategies such as N+1/2N) and assess equipment for high‑density compute power requirements.
- Participate in integrated systems testing (IST), factory witness tests, and energization planning.
- Provide daily assistance to critical engineering technicians—interpreting drawings, conducting system tours, explaining operating modes, and guiding troubleshooting.
- Deliver site‑specific electrical training for operations teams, techs, vendors, and new hires to ensure safe and consistent execution.
- Coordinate closely with mechanical, controls, networking, and construction teams to support AI‑ready capacity scaling.
- Manage vendor relationships—ensuring compliance with safety, quality, operational standards, and timely completion of work.
- Support electrical safety programs, risk assessments, and mitigation planning for high‑energy infrastructure.
- 8+ years of experience with mission‑critical electrical systems, preferably in data centers, hyperscale environments, or large industrial power systems.
- Deep understanding of Data Center electrical systems:
- LV/MV/HV power distribution
- UPS & battery systems
- Electrical protection, relays & controls
- AI/high‑density power requirements (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes & standards
- Experience supporting commissioning, energization and construction oversight.
- Ability to lead troubleshooting under pressure in high‑stakes critical environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PE, NICET, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with AI‑specific infrastructure such as high‑density GPU clusters, liquid cooling, and high‑amp busway systems (industry emerging needs).
- Experience in vendor management and cross‑functional engineering leadership.
- Able to remain in a seated position for an extended period and to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. (office manuals, case notebooks, case files, case materials, standard boxes, report binders, etc.) as needed.
