Performs preventive maintenance (oils motors, changes belts and filters, paints and cleans) on boilers and related equipment such as ventilating and refrigeration equipment, air conditioning machinery, generators, suction fans, pumps, and compressors.

Maintains a logbook that details the operation of boilers and/or pumping equipment and lists any maintenance work performed. Starts and stops pumps. Fires gas or oil fired boilers. Adjusts fuel and airflow. Regulates water level. Reads gauges to check water level, steam pressure, and operation of valves and auxiliary pumps. Performs minor repairs on boilers and related equipment. Assists, if needed, skilled workers in performing major repairs.

Oversees wastewater treatment. Ensures that pump station is properly maintained.
