The overall function of this position is to serve as grounds guard at DOTD District Headquarters. It is located in District 08, unit 002 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Transportation Operations Manager. The incumbent must be self‑motivated and able to perform duties often with or without minimal supervision and interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.

The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

• Serves as grounds guard at DOTD Headquarters complex and/or other district/section facilities by routinely making rounds during assigned shift.
• Inspects grounds or job site for the purpose of safe‑guarding equipment and/or materials against damage or loss due to theft, weather, or vandalism.
• Responds to various emergencies impacting area by promptly reporting incident to proper authorities for their further direction/action; receives/routes calls to proper authorities.
• Performs miscellaneous custodial duties for the purpose of maintaining cleaning work/grounds area.
• Dispenses fuel during after hour periods and properly records such transactions.
• May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
• May be subpoenaed as requested by DOTD legal Counsel.

* This position is considered disaster essential.
