The Facilities Construction Manager in an industrial services firm manages the lifecycle of maintenance contracts, ensuring both routine preventative care and large-scale renovation or equipment installation projects are completed safely and within budget. This role acts as a primary liaison between industrial clients, field technicians, and subcontractors to maintain operational continuity.
Core Responsibilities- Preventative Maintenance (PM) Programs
:
Develop, schedule, and oversee comprehensive PM routines for critical building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and production machinery. - Contract Management
:
Negotiate and manage service contracts with outside vendors, ensuring work meets specifications and safety regulations. - Project Oversight
:
Plan and coordinate construction, renovations, and equipment installations, including developing project scopes, timelines, and budgets. - Safety and Compliance
:
Ensure all on-site activities adhere to OSHA standards, building codes, and environmental regulations. - Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination
:
Select, bid out, and supervise the work of specialized contractors for plumbing, electrical, or structural repairs. - Reporting and Documentation
:
Maintain detailed records of inspections, audits, maintenance schedules, and financial reports for senior leadership.
- Education
:
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. - Experience
: 10+ years in facilities management or construction, preferably with exposure to heavy industrial settings or maintenance outages. - Technical Skills
:
Proficiency in reading blueprints/schematics, managing industrial HVAC/electrical systems, and using project management software. - Certifications
:
Professional designations such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) are highly preferred. - Soft Skills
:
Strong leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities to handle unexpected facility failures or emergency repairs.
- Ability to work in both office and active industrial/construction environments.
- Must be able to navigate various worksites, which may involve climbing ladders, lifting up to 50–70 lbs, and exposure to weather or loud machinery.
- May require 24/7 on-call availability to respond to facility emergencies or critical equipment failures
