The purpose of this classification is to perform manual and supervisory work to repair and maintain equipment and machinery in the Electric Production Plant.
Organizes, prioritizes, assigns and supervises work involved in the inspection and maintenance of Electric Plant: prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex situations and provides technical expertise.
Schedules and oversees work inside the plant that is performed by contract labor.
Supervises and participates in the mechanical repair work of plant machinery: assists with the actual repair work or welding and fabricating of turbines, generators, pumps, as well as preventative maintenance of Wartsila stationary engines.
Maintains an inventory of parts needed for equipment maintenance and repair: prepares purchase orders to ensure that materials are present as needed for each job.
Monitors and implements precautionary work methods and safety equipment to ensure safety of workers; conducts safety training and meetings with employees to ensure compliance to all applicable rules and safety regulations.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or maintains the appropriate paperwork necessary to the functions of this position: prepares or completes various forms, correspondence, reports, materials requisitions, maintenance logs, etc.; receives various forms, reports, maintenance requests, timesheets, leave request forms, invoices, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete essential functions: may operate or supervise the operation of backhoes, lathes, milling machines, wire welding machines, plasma cutters, tractors, compressors, pumps, turbines, overhead cranes, welding tools, dial calipers, or other equipment or supplies.
High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical certification in Welding, Fabrication, or related field; supplemented by substantial experience involving electric utility generation plant mechanical, welding, and machinist skills; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and supervisory abilities for this job.
Necessary RequirementsCompletion of Wartsila gas fueled internal combustion reciprocating engines is required for employment in this classification after the commercial operations date of the new units. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
