The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) — Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) — provides primary medical care within a federally contracted ICE residential facility.
The APP conducts medical evaluations, diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions, prescribes medications, orders and interprets diagnostic testing, manages infectious disease concerns, responds to medical emergencies, and coordinates referrals for higher levels of care. This role works collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, behavioral health professionals, pharmacy personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, effective, and culturally responsive healthcare services.
This position requires experience caring for pediatric and adult populations, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities /Essential Functions Clinical Care- Conduct medical assessments, examinations, and screenings for pediatric and adult patients.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests and laboratory results.
- Develop treatment plans and provide patient education.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies.
- Evaluate and manage special populations, including children, pregnant individuals, and patients with chronic medical conditions.
- Assess, treat, and monitor infectious diseases in accordance with applicable public health guidelines.
- Participate in infection prevention and control activities.
- Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency transfers when necessary.
- Provide clinical input regarding fitness for travel and continuity of care.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, behavioral health providers, and ancillary staff to ensure integrated patient care.
- Authorize referrals, specialty consultations, and off‑site medical services as appropriate.
- Provide clinical guidance and support to nursing and support staff.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records.
- Document assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, medication orders, and significant clinical events.
- Adhere to all federal, state, organizational, and professional practice standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with mandatory reporting requirements.
- Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- National board certification in applicable specialty.
- Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- Active DEA registration and applicable controlled substance authorization.
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience as an NP or PA.
- Experience treating pediatric and adult populations.
- Strong assessment, diagnostic, and clinical decision‑making skills.
- Experience in primary care, urgent care, emergency medicine, family practice, community health, or similar settings preferred.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR).
- Current BLS and ACLS; PALS preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required federal background clearances.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
- Experience working in a federal contract environment.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Training in trauma informed care and crisis intervention.
- Employees must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident.
