Position Overview
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides direct clinical nursing care and health monitoring within a federally contracted ICE residential facility. Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Providers, the LVN delivers patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment and must demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and composure in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities /Essential FunctionsClinical Nursing Care
- Perform nursing assessments, health screenings, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, wound care, and other nursing interventions within the LVN scope of practice.
- Assist Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Providers in the evaluation and management of acute and chronic medical conditions, including pediatric patients.
- Conduct welfare checks and line-of-sight monitoring for residents with identified medical or behavioral health concerns.
- Ensure residents have uninterrupted access to prescribed medications and maintain medication storage in accordance with facility protocols.
- Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, including activating emergency response systems and coordinating transfers for higher levels of care when necessary.
Population Health & Preventive Care
- Conduct intake health screenings, document health histories, immunization status, communicable disease screening results, and immediate medical needs.
- Monitor for communicable diseases, implement infection control measures, and assist with vaccinations and TB screening in accordance with applicable guidelines.
- Provide health education and support dietary accommodations for residents with identified medical needs.
Behavioral Health & Trauma-Informed Support
- Apply trauma-informed care principles in all resident interactions.
- Observe, document, and report behavioral health concerns, referring residents for additional services as appropriate.
- Utilize de-escalation and motivational interviewing techniques and comply with mandatory reporting requirements for abuse, neglect, sexual assault, or other reportable incidents.
Emergency & Safety Operations
- Participate in emergency drills, evacuation procedures, and safety training; support the facility's emergency action plan including mass casualty and infectious disease protocols.
- Collaborate with security, transportation, and facility management teams during emergency situations, including off-site medical escorts and hospital admissions.
- Ensure medical equipment, supplies, and emergency kits are consistently stocked, inspected, and functional.
Documentation, Compliance & Coordination
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, medication records, referrals, and reports of significant medical events.
- Report changes in resident health status and medical emergencies in accordance with facility requirements.
- Adhere to all applicable standards, policies, confidentiality requirements, and resident rights protections.
- Participate in shift briefings, staff training, audits, and compliance activities.
- Current, unrestricted Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) licensure in the State of Louisiana.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience in a hospital, urgent care, community health, public health, correctional health, or residential care setting.
- Demonstrated experience.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (must be maintained throughout employment).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance (up to and including a Tier 4 DHS clearance).
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident with proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a 24/7 operational environment, with the possibility of rotating shifts, overnight, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations.
- Pediatric nursing experience.
- Proficiency in nursing assessment, medication administration, wound care, and clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with infection control, communicable disease management, public health protocols, and EHR systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Experience in residential, humanitarian, correctional, immigration, or similar settings.
- Experience providing nursing care to diverse patient populations, with preference for experience working with immigrant, migrant, refugee, or underserved communities.
- Training or experience in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, or de-escalation.
- Additional certifications such as IV Therapy, Pediatric First Aid, or PALS preferred.
