Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or designated supervisor, this position provides comprehensive administrative, clerical, patient support, and coordination services to ensure the efficient operation of the nursing unit and delivery of quality patient care. This role serves as a central point of communication for patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary departments while supporting patient safety, unit operations, patient transport, surgical scheduling, and observation services.

High School diploma or GED required. Two years’ clerical experience in medical facility or office required. Computer experience required with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to speak effectively to internal and external customers required. Ability to speak English language required.

Responsibilities- Schedules appointments and procedures according to policies on nursing and anesthesia staff availability, patient needs and physician’s block time.
- Coordinates surgical preoperative appointment schedule with clinical preoperative activates.
- Maintains schedule according to procedure and physician’s time and staffing requirements.
- Coordinates schedule assessing time and equipment availability; identifies conflicts and adjusts schedule as needed.
- Prepares appointment schedule and Surgery Schedule for review by the Operating Room Supervisor so that adjustments may be made as required.
- Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
- Provides clerical, receptionist, and administrative support to facilitate the efficient operation of the department.
- Greets patients, families, physicians, and visitors in a professional, compassionate and customer focused manner.
- Serves as a communication liaison between patients, families, physicians, nursing staff and other departments.
- Maintains accurate patient records, unit documentation, and communication logs in accordance with organizational policies.
- Assist nursing staff by picking up and delivering specimens, medications, charts, requisitions, etc.
- Performs EKG testing on patients.
- Assist patients with admission questionnaire and respond to inquiries.
- Answers call lights, observe and report patient’s status and needs.
- Respect and regards the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
- Performs preoperative patient screening and intake by verifying patient identity, obtaining height, weight and blood pressure.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support patient care and departmental operations.
- Adheres to all hospital policies, patient confidentiality requirements, infection prevention standards, and safety protocols.
