Position Details
Police Officer 3 (PS110) – Salary $40,082 – $72,155. Special Entrance Rate: $21.27 per hour.
Minimum QualificationsTwo years of experience in law enforcement work. Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) unless exempted by Civil Service rule or policy. Passing score on the 2100-PSE required. Must be P.O.S.T. certified and attach a copy of completed P.O.S.T. Certificate.
SubstitutionsCollege training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
Necessary ConditionsApplicant must be at least eighteen years old at time of appointment. A conviction of a felony or indictment for a felony will disqualify until relief is granted. May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license and qualify annually with a firearm. May need to be eligible for bond.
Job DistinctionsDiffers from Police Officer 2-A by routine involvement in complex investigations, intelligence gathering, and surveillance operations. Differs from Police Officer 3 by presence of certain regularly occurring duties. Differs from Police Sergeant‑A by absence of supervisory responsibility.
Background, Security, and Professional RequirementsBackground check and drug screen required. Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies:
Middle States, New England, Higher Learning, Northwest, Southern, or Western associations. May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment.
- Protect lives and property through active foot and mobile patrol, defensive tactics, and use of equipment.
- Conduct investigations, collect evidence, assist partner agencies, and transport subjects.
- Enforce parking and traffic regulations, issue tickets, direct traffic, and provide courtesy assistance.
- Provide first aid and emergency assistance; serve on First Aid Team and Campus Safety Committee; escort responders; report roadway or infrastructure obstructions; provide armed escort services during peak periods.
- Maintain relationships with local law‑enforcement agencies; ensure 24‑hour communication with emergency services.
- Work independently and be self‑motivated; perform other duties as assigned.
Applicant required to work a Flex Shift covering various AM and PM periods. Must qualify yearly at the firing range and achieve a qualifying score of 96 or better. May serve as assistant shift supervisor.
