The overall function of this position is performing a full range of repairs on a variety of makes and models of heavy and light construction equipment, passenger vehicles, medium duty trucks, and small engine equipment in District 08. The employee is responsible for inspecting equipment, diagnosing mechanical problems, and determine best course of repair in the District.
This is a hands‑on field role that requires attention to detail, safety awareness, and strong documentation skills.
Minimum QualificationsOne year of experience or training as a mechanic.
Job Duties- Performs entry level repair/maintenance and inspection related activities on vehicles and heavy construction equipment.
- Assists higher level mechanics in working on a variety of mobile equipment and vehicles.
- May also be responsible for repair and maintenance of equipment powered by small internal combustion engines such as lawnmowers, string trimmers, outboard motors, etc. Tasks may include spark plug replacement, carburetor cleaning, starter repair, and filter replacement.
- Removes and cleans fuel tanks.
- May maintain inventory of tools, instruments, and supplies.
Position-Specific Details:
- Mechanic 1 – $ 35,734.00 Annual
- Mechanic 2 – $ 40,914.00 Annual
- Mechanic 3 – $ 43,784.00 Annual
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
Career ProgressionVacancies may be filled as Mechanic 1, 2, or 3 based on qualifications and agency needs.
Appointment TypeThis position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency‑wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
