District Sign Specialist help keep Louisiana’s roads and bridges safe by performing the duties related to the complete installation and maintenance of highway signs throughout the District on all state and federal routes including urban and rural areas.
No experience is required—training is provided, with opportunities for career progression. Possession of a current Class D Chauffer's License.
This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call‑outs depending on assignment.
Positions are located in Rapides, District 08/Unit 750 and report to Highway Foreman.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTPossession of a current Class D Chauffer's License.

Job Duties- Possess a Class D Chauffer's License
- Pass random drug testing
- Operate a forklift, gasoline post driver/auger, and various hand tools
- Lift 75 lbs. repeatedly
- Have knowledge of the use of UHF radio and proper radio etiquette
- Utilize cell phones, GPS devices, computer and email to facilitate communication.
This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
Position‑Specific Details Compensation- District Sign Specialist 1 - $35,734.00 Annually
- District Sign Specialist 2 - $ 40,914.00 Annually
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
Career ProgressionThis position may be filled as District Sign Specialist 1 or District Sign Specialist 2, based on qualifications and agency needs.
Licensing RequirementsCertain levels may require a valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License or CDL prior to permanent appointment or start date, depending on assignment.
Appointment TypeThis position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
