Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support students with special needs at Discovery Middle School. This part-time position involves working closely with special education teachers and other staff to provide assistance and support to students in their academic and social development. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping students succeed and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

• Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with diverse needs.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during classroom activities, ensuring they understand the material and can participate fully.
• Help manage classroom behavior and promote a positive learning environment.
• Support students during transitions between classes and during lunch or recess, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to track student progress and share insights about individual student needs.
• Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
• Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and their families, adhering to all relevant regulations and policies.

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree or higher in education, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students in their learning and development.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers and special education staff.
• Basic knowledge of special education laws and practices is a plus.
• Must pass background checks and any other required screenings prior to employment.
• Availability to work part-time hours, including some afternoons and potentially evenings, as needed.

Compensation: $21.70 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
