Applied Engineering, Inc. is seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our team in Alexandria, MN as a Mechanical Engineer – Machine Design. You will be part of a group of engineers dedicated to high-quality work, value-add solutions, skill development, and career growth.
JOB SUMMARYAs a Mechanical Engineer, Machine Design in Alexandria, MN
, you will:
- Design new high‑speed packaging automation machinery for efficiency, durability, and cost‑effectiveness
- Develop new equipment and standardize existing machine designs
- Provide hands‑on troubleshooting support for manufacturing and assembly issues
- Improve and update current product lines using new tools, materials, and lessons learned
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure machines are built to specification
- Lead or facilitate technical design reviews to support knowledge sharing and peer development
- Apply critical thinking to resolve complex technical challenges independently
- Generate innovative ideas to improve equipment, processes, and engineering outcomes
- Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners
- Contribute to projects that impact communities in Fergus Falls, Willmar, Osakis, and Glenwood, and the greater Alexandria, MN metro
- Apply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovation
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required
- 4+ years of machine design experience
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment and initiative
- Strong problem‑solving skills for complex technical challenges
- Experience collaborating across business functions and contributing to team success
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
- Customer‑focused mindset with ability to meet internal and external needs
- Ability to support peer learning and contribute to knowledge sharing
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing, kneeling, or balancing
- Capable of working independently and as a team member
