Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead projects from concept through completion while working closely with clients in sectors such as K-12 education, healthcare, and multifamily buildings. The position combines hands-on mechanical and HVAC design with project management responsibilities, allowing you to own the full project lifecycle and build strong client relationships in a growing, smaller engineering firm environment.

Responsibilities

* Lead mechanical engineering projects from initial concept through design, coordination, and final delivery, ensuring schedules and quality standards are met.

* Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, communicating project status, gathering requirements, and addressing questions throughout the project lifecycle.

* Plan, organize, and manage project tasks, resources, and timelines while coordinating with internal mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural team members.

* Perform detailed HVAC and mechanical system design for K-12, healthcare, and multifamily projects, including equipment selection and system layout.

* Conduct load calculations and other engineering analyses to size and select mechanical systems that meet project and code requirements.

* Develop and refine mechanical and HVAC drawings using Revit, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.

* Review, redline, and update design documents and production drawings to incorporate design changes, coordination items, and quality improvements.

* Collaborate with plumbing and piping disciplines to integrate mechanical systems into coordinated building designs.

* Support the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and related engineering deliverables.

* Participate in internal project meetings and coordination sessions to identify and resolve design issues early in the process.

* Mentor and support less experienced team members by reviewing their work, providing feedback, and sharing best practices in mechanical design and Revit production.

* Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and workflows within the office.

Essential Skills

* 4-year degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

* 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience, preferably in building systems.

* 4+ years of HVAC design experience, including system layout and equipment selection.

* 1+ years of experience performing load calculations for mechanical systems.

* 1+ years of Revit experience, with a strong focus on design and production work.

* 3+ years of project management experience leading engineering projects.

* Proficiency in Revit for mechanical design, modeling, and redlining of drawings.

* Hands-on experience with mechanical design, including HVAC, piping, and coordination with other building systems.

* Ability to review and redline design documents accurately and efficiently.

* Strong communication skills for direct client interaction and internal coordination.

* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

* Experience working on K-12, healthcare, or multifamily building projects.

* Plumbing knowledge and experience coordinating plumbing systems with mechanical design.

* Experience working in smaller engineering firm environments where flexibility and collaboration are important.

* Interest in growing into expanded project management responsibilities or deepening expertise in design, depending on career goals.

* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Work Environment

The role is based in a newer North Loop office, with a small local team of approximately three to four people, depending on meetings and project needs. The broader organization includes about 30 professionals across mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural disciplines, with an additional office in St. Cloud that houses around eight team members. You will work Monday through Friday with flexible hours, collaborating closely with a business development and project management leader.

The environment emphasizes autonomy, allowing you to shape your career path toward project management or remain focused on design, while working in a close-knit, supportive office setting that values professional growth and open communication.
