OBJECTIVE

To ensure the cleanliness, safety, functionality, and readiness of Police Department facilities and vehicles through effective maintenance, repair, and support services. Work schedule is part-time (up to 29 hours per week) with morning and afternoon working hours.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED & EXERCISED
  • Works under the general supervision of the Police Chief

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an employee must report to work on a timely and regular basis and be able to perform each essential function. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.

FACILITIES, VEHICLE MAINTENANCE, AND GENERAL DUTIES
  • Cleans floors, restrooms, lobby, furniture, windows, and surfaces
  • Manages trash disposal and custodial supply inventory
  • Maintains cleanliness in specialized areas like evidence processing and garages
  • Identifies building maintenance issues and schedules routine HVAC, electrical, and structural work with vendors
  • Notifies Police Chief of any major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Clears snow using a shovel or snow blower and applies de-icing agents around buildings
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors, furniture, or fixtures
  • Orders supplies and equipment for cleaning and maintenance
  • Cleans, inspects, and performs minor maintenance on police vehicles, and coordinates repairs with Public Works or local service providers
  • Sets up, moves, and takes down tables, chairs, and desks for meetings or events
  • Assists with non-sworn departmental operations and community programs
  • Participates on the City’s Safety Committee to help identify and mitigate workplace hazards
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Commitment to maintaining security, cleanliness, and operational readiness of police facilities and equipment
  • Working knowledge of custodial practices, including safe handling of cleaning agents
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, maintain accurate records of maintenance work, and report issues to supervisory staff promptly
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate hand and power tools for facility and vehicle maintenance tasks
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor including lifting and moving tables, chairs, and desks or equipment, climbing ladders, and operating snow removal equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to determine and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 2 years of experience in building maintenance, custodial services, or a related field
  • Must pass background investigation
  • Valid Driver’s License
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • General knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural components
  • Experience in a municipal or law enforcement setting
