CNC Operator
This role involves operating and, depending on experience, setting up CNC mills and lathes to perform precision machining operations on a variety of metal components. You will work with production equipment to complete tasks such as turning, boring, facing, and threading, while using inspection tools to verify part quality and learning to perform full machine setups over time.
Responsibilities- Operate CNC mills and lathes to perform machining operations including turning, boring, facing, and threading on parts such as castings, forgings, and bar stock.
- Load and unload parts from CNC machines safely and efficiently throughout the production process.
- Change out tools and inserts on CNC mills and lathes as required to maintain proper cutting conditions and part quality.
- Run production jobs after the setup machinist has completed the initial setup, following established work instructions and process parameters.
- Monitor machine operations, identify basic issues such as tool wear or dimensional drift, and communicate concerns to the setup machinist or supervisor.
- Use inspection tools such as micrometers and calipers to measure parts and verify they meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including machines, tools, and workstations, in accordance with shop safety and housekeeping practices.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating machining equipment and handling materials.
- Learn and develop long-term skills in performing machine setups, including installing tooling, setting offsets, and verifying first-piece quality.
- Collaborate with other machinists, operators, and quality personnel to ensure efficient workflow and consistent production output.
- Experience operating CNC mills and/or CNC lathes in a machining or machine shop environment.
- Ability to perform basic machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading on metal components.
- Hands-on experience using inspection tools, including micrometers and calipers, to verify part dimensions.
- Familiarity with machining processes and working in a machine shop setting.
- Understanding of CNC machine controls, including common control systems such as Fanuc and Haas.
- Ability to follow work instructions, read basic measurements, and adhere to production and quality standards.
- Strong soft skills, including reliability, communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn and take direction.
- Capability to safely load and unload parts, change tools, and operate equipment for extended periods.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with both CNC mills and CNC lathes in a production environment.
- Experience in machining using Fanuc and Haas-controlled machines.
- Exposure to machine setup activities, including tooling changes and offset adjustments.
- Previous work in a machine shop or manufacturing environment with metalworking equipment.
- Interest in developing into a setup-level machinist over time.
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills related to machining and equipment operation.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
