Job Description
Staff Accountant – Accounts Receivable at NARFE is responsible for a wide range of accounting and financial duties to ensure the accuracy and integrity of NARFE’s financial records. This role supports daily accounting operations, monthly reconciliations, revenue tracking, tax compliance, and financial reporting across multiple funds and systems. The position requires strong attention to detail, sound accounting knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities- Reconcile all NARFE bank accounts on a monthly basis, including NARFE PAC, Alzheimer’s Fund, General Fund, Payroll, and investment accounts, to the general ledger.
- Maintain company ledgers and record daily financial transactions.
- Identify discrepancies in ledgers and accounts, trace issues to their source, and make appropriate corrections.
- Perform daily accounting system activities including cash reconciliation, accounts receivable revenue, and deferred revenue.
- Prepare and enter journal entries into the accounting system.
- Assist with the preparation of financial reports as needed.
- Track and reconcile all royalty and advertising payments within the AMS system and ensure accurate transfer to the accounting system.
- Maintain lockbox files for PAC, Membership, and Donations.
- Process daily lockbox files and upload transactions into the Membership Database (AMS system).
- Enter PAC receipts and checks into the AMS system accurately and timely.
- Maintain the fixed assets database and post monthly depreciation entries.
- Track asset disposals in accordance with accounting policies.
- Ensure timely payment of State business personal property taxes and State sales and use taxes, and payment of State real estate taxes as applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of prior accounting experience.
- Experience creating journal entries and financial reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills.
- Familiarity with accounting and invoicing software systems.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
