Lodestar Consulting is currently seeking multiple full-time Accounting and Financial Reporting Consultants to join our team in support of our Navy client. This role is responsible for performing detailed research and analysis of Sub-Ledger and General Ledger (GL) activity to support audit readiness and financial compliance. This role identifies audit issues, conducts root-cause analysis, recommends corrective actions, and supports or performs corrective action implementation. The position requires close coordination with auditors, financial managers, and operational stakeholders to ensure accurate, compliant, and auditable financial records.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Department of the Navy (DON) audit response, audit remediation, internal controls, financial processes, and/or accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS), and/or relevant Department of the Treasury and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) policies
- Managing the day-to-day research, analysis, and communication at the direction of project leads and client
- Utilizing data analysis technology to analyze information
- Analyze information and provide financial reporting and related remediation solutions
- Support the review of draft and new Notifications of Findings and Recommendations (NFR), to include receiving NFRs, review and assess for accuracy, look for root causes, document investigation, and provide recommendations to either modify the draft finding or develop and implement corrective action plans (CAP) for final findings
- Review and update, as necessary, CAPs for open and reissued NFRs. Develop actionable milestones with due dates that align with the Audit Roadmap
- Demonstrating excellent writing and communication skills as significant time is spent drafting/updating communication artifacts (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures, Desktop Guides, whitepapers)
- Demonstrating strong customer service skills and the ability to work in occasional high-pressure situations with short deadlines
- Directing and reviewing the work of Senior Associates
- Communicating status of project-related tasks to Team Lead and client
Requirements:
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and audit processes
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and identify root causes
- Minimum 2-3 days per week on-site requirement (Alexandria, VA)
Desired
Skills:
- Experience working with the Federal Government and/or DoW clients
- Experience in federal/DoD financial statement auditing, audit remediation, and audit readiness
- Experience with financial reporting processes, financial statement compilation, and federal reporting requirements
- Experience researching and applying FASAB, OMB, and Treasury requirements including OMB Circular A-136, and/or the Treasury Financial Manual (TFM)
- Experience working with DFAS reporting policy and procedures
- One of the following professional certifications: CPA, CISA, CIA, CGFM or CDFM
- Proficient skills in MS Excel
- Experience with SharePoint, Oracle, ACL Analytics, PowerBI, and/or Access databases
Education:
- BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university in Accounting or Business Administration with a major in Accounting
Security Clearance:
- Must have an Active DoD Secret Security Clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship).
The expected total compensation range for this position is between $65,000 and $90,000. This range is representative of base pay only and does not include, company contributions towards paid benefits, and/or bonuses. Actual compensation (meeting or exceeding the range) will be determined based on specific experience, education, work location, clearance level, and other factors permitted by law. This position is eligible for bonuses (when applicable).
