Position Summary
Our nonprofit organization is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial records. The Staff Accountant will assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, grant tracking, accounts payable and receivable, and audit preparation. This role works closely with the Controller and Finance team to maintain compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Monitor and track grant funding, restricted funds, and program expenses.
- Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.
- Prepare supporting schedules for audits and financial reporting.
- Review employee expense reports for accuracy and policy compliance.
- Help maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Support budget preparation and ad hoc financial analyses.
- Assist with annual Form 990 preparation and other compliance reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Experience with accounting software such as Net Suite, Sage Intacct, Quick Books, or similar ERP systems preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Nonprofit accounting and grant/fund accounting.
- Audit support and financial statement preparation.
- Payroll and accounts payable processing.
- Experience working with restricted funding and donor reporting requirements.
