Field Construction Safety Manager

Location:

Alexandria, VA

Duration: 1+ Months (Immediate Need)

Type: 1099 Contractor

Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay Rate: $52/hr
  • Per Diem: $125/Day (7 Days Per Week)
  • Completion Bonus: $150/month

Join a painting subcontractor supporting a major wastewater facility construction project in Alexandria, VA. This role provides hands‑on field safety oversight within a heavy civil and industrial construction environment, with work involving painting and coating operations, elevated work, scaffolding, mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), and underground construction.

A significant portion of the work will be performed within a deep shaft, making strong experience with underground construction, fall protection, access/egress, and elevated work critical for this assignment.

Required Qualifications
  • OSHA 30 Construction Certification
  • Minimum 5 years of Safety Manager experience specifically within heavy industrial or heavy civil construction
  • Underground construction and deep shaft work experience
  • Strong Fall Protection experience
  • Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) experience
  • Scaffolding safety experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Wastewater or water treatment facility construction experience
  • Industrial painting and coatings safety experience
  • Confined space experience
  • Fall Protection Competent Person experience

    Scaffold Competent Person experience
  • Heavy civil infrastructure construction experience
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or other BCSP credential
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide daily field safety oversight for painting and coating operations
  • Maintain a highly visible presence throughout active construction areas
  • Monitor work performed within deep shafts and underground construction environments
  • Provide safety oversight for fall protection and elevated work activities
  • Monitor scaffolding erection, access, use, and compliance
  • Oversee MEWP, aerial lift, and other elevated access operations
  • Conduct routine site inspections, audits, observations, and hazard assessments
  • Monitor safe access and egress for underground and shaft work
  • Support confined space activities where applicable
  • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), permits, and pre-task plans
  • Monitor PPE, respiratory protection, and coating-related hazards
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and project‑specific safety requirements
  • Identify unsafe conditions and coordinate immediate corrective actions
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation
  • Maintain required safety documentation, inspection records, and compliance reports
  • Coordinate closely with project supervision, craft personnel, and site leadership
