Overview
We are seeking a Senior Architect to join our team in Alexandria, VA. Under limited supervision, the candidate applies technical proficiency to solutions for architectural problems and coordinates related project activities. The successful candidate will work with all levels of staff within the firm, take initiative to develop research and design, and implement projects from start to finish. The position also supports Business Development and presentation efforts in securing and advancing new projects.
Your role- Provide superior architectural team leadership, interacting with senior management and playing a decisive role in project pursuits.
- Make timely design and technical decisions collaboratively while seeking advice from peers and supervisors.
- Present oneself professionally to clients, maintaining a seller‑doer approach and ensuring clients are properly informed.
- Perform programming, planning, and other conceptual design activities.
- Develop designs and sketches for input into Revit-based construction documents, directing a project team to do the same.
- Lead production of project documents through all stages of design and construction.
- Mentor junior staff and lead a project team to produce complete construction documents, including QC review for design and red‑line documents in Bluebeam or another digital format.
- Coordinate with sub‑consultants and other disciplines, mentoring junior staff in the same.
- Conduct QC review and provide necessary information to a specification writer.
- Create organized exhibits in Bluebeam and PowerPoint for client and team review.
- Direct and perform, if required, site observation and field work including site investigations, existing facility inventory, and field‑measured documentation.
- Provide Project Managers with status reports on progress of architectural documents.
- Complete assignments efficiently, accurately, and on time, performing quality control on work prior to publication.
- Communicate regularly with the team and stay within the budgeted hours for assigned tasks.
- Maintain and coordinate project BIM models with strong knowledge of construction document standards and conventions.
- Apply advanced knowledge of building codes, ADAAG, federal and state compliance requirements, and participate in code review processes.
- Interact with regulatory agencies and achieve consensus.
- Consult product manufacturers, evaluate and obtain accurate cost information, select materials, and inspect architectural features in the field.
- Understand building materials and construction methods.
- Demonstrate strong time‑management and organizational skills.
- Work effectively on multiple projects or issues simultaneously.
- Initiate tasks independently and follow through for delivery as needed.
- Analyze information and propose effective solutions independently.
- Create basic, informative 3D models in BIM or another digital format.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture required.
- Minimum 15–20 years of relevant work experience covering all phases of architectural drafting, detailing, and coordination of consultants.
- Expertise in BIM/Revit and basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Licensed architect in at least one state.
- LEED AP or other sustainability certification, or ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
- Advanced knowledge of building systems and experience implementing various building systems across project types (aviation, rail, transit, commercial, education, defense, federal).
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary work for complex architectural engineering projects.
- Experience directing junior staff to develop project documentation and manage deliverables.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and desire for career advancement.
- Resume demonstrating a large variety of project types in size and complexity.
- Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor to support the Architecture Practice.

Expected compensation range is between $102,800–$171,300 annually, depending on skills, experience, and geographic location.
