Job DescriptionThe High School - World Language (SPAN, GERM, FREN, CHIN) Teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress; addressing specific educational needs; and providing a safe and optimal learning environment. This Licensed High School 10‑month, 195‑day Teacher position reports to the School Principal.

Qualifications- Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Certificates & Licenses: A valid Virginia Department of Education teaching provisional, collegiate, or postgraduate license with an endorsement in the corresponding world language (SPAN, GERM, FREN, CHIN), or eligibility to obtain the teaching license with the appropriate endorsement upon hiring.
- Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
- Administers developmental testing programs and subject‑specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Advises parents or legal guardians of student progress, communicates expectations, achievements, and develops methods for improvement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes.
- Counsels students on performance improvement, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and subject‑specific assignments to address individual student needs.
- Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
- Instructs students to improve academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in various educational settings (classroom, playground, field trips, nap times) to ensure safety and positivity.
- Participates in meetings to convey and gather required information.
- Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain safety and adhere to policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure effective functioning of the work unit.
- Step placement and salary determined by the ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale.
- Criminal Justice fingerprint/background clearance.
- Tuberculosis skin test.
- Compliance with public health safety and health protocols.
