Job Description

The (.4) Part-time Elementary Visual Art Teacher will develop students' artistic skills by implementing district‑approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress, activities, and outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling the necessary skills to perform assigned tasks; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. This is a (.4) Part‑time Licensed Elementary 10‑month, 195 day Teacher position, reporting to the School Principal.

Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited College or University in a Related Field Required;
    Master's Degree Preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Provisional, Collegiate, or Post Graduate License, with an endorsement in Visual Arts PreK‑12, or eligibility to obtain the Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement upon hiring.
Essential Functions
  • Administers subject‑specific assessment and tests to determine students’ proficiency levels.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and achievements, developing methods for improvement and reinforcing classroom goals at home.
  • Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals (e.g., artistic skills) to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support school improvement plans.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and related personal issues.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and subject‑specific assignments, ensuring an effective program addressing individual student needs.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to support classroom programs and student needs.
  • Evaluates routes (e.g., bus stops, clock schedules) to ensure compliance with safety schedules, policies, and mandated guidelines.
  • Instructs students to improve knowledge and skills in art (e.g., crafts, drawing, painting, design) and in the proper use of equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment, monitoring students in various settings (classroom, playground, field trips, nap times).
  • Participates in meetings to convey and gather information required for functions.
  • Plans art displays and exhibitions to showcase student work.
  • Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain student safety and comply with Education Code and school policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations, resolving immediate safety concerns or directing to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc., resolving issues and providing information; supports classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and student plans.
  • Performs related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
  • May perform additional duties or tasks designated by supervisor.
Compensation
  • Step Placement and Salary determined by the ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale.
  • FLSA Status:
    Exempt position – not eligible for overtime pay.
Clearances
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance – Must follow safety and health protocols.
