- Adjunct faculty are paid a per credit hour rate. The per credit hour rate is determined by the assigned rank and discipline taught. Assigned rank is determined by both education and teaching experience.

Job Description
- General Description:
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session.
Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Duties and Tasks:
Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations ofNOVAand theVCCS.Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations.
Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD)
DMVarea.
Special Assignments
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications - KSAs:
Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate the diversity of community college students.
· Ability to use formative and summative assessment measure to enhance student learning.
Experience with or ability to utilize proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
Ability to use or incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods to enhance classroom instruction.
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
Available to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in the teaching field or associate's degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competencies. (Qualifying degree(s) must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution.)A minimum of two years of full-time college-level teaching experience and/or related occupational experience in the teaching field. Part-time experience will be converted to its full-time equivalency.
Certification in cost estimating and/or scheduling.

Practical experience in Site Supervision and Field Operations and/or Construction Project Scheduling and Estimating.
Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
Research experience in an academic or professional setting.
Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
Master's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
