Position: Lead AVID Tutor (Middle School and High School)

Lead AVID Tutor

The Lead AVID Tutor will collaborate with and lead their school-based AVID tutor team with the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) elective tutorial process. AVID tutor teams will facilitate small group inquiry-based tutorials of middle or high school students during the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) elective and AVID Excel classes during the school day. The Lead AVID tutor will serve as the conduit for communication and training between the AVID District Director and the AVID Tutor team.

Additionally, they will collaborate with the classroom teacher to create tutorial refinement and adjustments targeted at increasing student success.

Lead AVID Tutors will be required to conduct quarterly reflective feedback and assist with upcoming professional learning agendas that support division-wide tutor training. The lead tutor will be required to work the full AVID tutor assignment, inclusive of all hours/days for the assigned school, or approximately 14-25 hours per week, based on the school schedule. Lead Tutors may be asked to support the planning and implementation of school wide tutorials where creative programming exists beyond the AVID class.

Priority will be granted to those who are college-age or have completed a four-year degree or beyond, have AVID tutor experience, have demonstrated leadership qualities in the past, and can meet the hours necessary to support the elective class schedule. Training and guidance will be provided to support the expected duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Meets monthly with the AVID District Director and peer Lead tutors from other secondary sites for reflective monthly check-ins for coaching, guidance, and next steps necessary for implementation refinement.

Guides and assists their tutor team and AVID elective students with implementing the proper AVID tutorial model with fidelity, which requires facilitating small group inquiry-based content tutorials and other AVID strategies.

Collaborates with middle school and/or high school faculty and other tutors to support and build the AVID School wide system.

Leads weekly debrief meeting with AVID tutor team as a means for reflecting, refining and planning additional upcoming supports for student group success.

Conducts coaching for tutors and students regarding student-maintained AVID binders/ e-binders, Focused Notes, planning tools, Tutorial Request Forms, and/or Scholar Group Forms (TRF/SGF) that support academic classes.

Assists teacher with the completion of data collection and input, certification evidence, and other tracking data that support student growth and overall success.

Performs other duties as assigned by the AVID elective teacher, AVID site coordinator, and/or District Director.

Compensation:

Hourly pay $20.00

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Tuberculosis Skin Test.
Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
