Potomac Crescent Waldorf School (PCWS) is seeking a third grade class teacher for the  school year to join our dedicated faculty and vibrant community at our newly renovated school in historic Old Town Alexandria near Washington, D.C.

The third‑grade teacher will teach from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Thursdays the teacher teaches from 8:00 a.m. to noon and participates in faculty meetings until 2:45 p.m.

About

PCWS was established in 1998. The school building offers an onsite playground and access to local parks for outdoor programming. PCWS is a full member of WECAN and an associate member of AWSNA. We offer preschool through fifth grade programming, as well as parent–child classes for infants and toddlers.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and teach developmentally appropriate daily main lessons, specialty classes, and extra main lesson classes based on Waldorf pedagogy and PCWS’s articulated curriculum.
  • Coordinate with specialty class teachers, sharing information, strategies, and action plans for individual students when needed.
  • Secure all supplies and materials needed for daily lessons and work within the class supply budget.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and beautiful classroom.
  • Write comprehensive narrative year‑end reports and progress report checklists for parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Communicate regularly with class parents, schedule and host four parent evening meetings and two parent‑teacher conferences during the year.
  • Work with the Director of Admissions and the grades department to admit families into the grades program.
  • Participate in weekly faculty meetings, grades department meetings, and committee work, collaborating cooperatively with colleagues.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a confident classroom presence with strong social and communication skills and a love for children and teaching. A bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates should have completed Waldorf grades teacher training or be able to commit to this training and be receptive to mentoring.
