Job Description Washington International Academy (WIA) in Alexandria, Virginia is hiring a full-time science educator for middle school grades 6-9, beginning August 13, 2026. The school emphasizes concept-based and inquiry-driven instruction, where students engage in careful observation, pose questions, design investigations, and reason from evidence.###
Key Responsibilities
* Design inquiry-driven curriculum units in Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, and Biology
* Structure lessons around scientific practices using the 5E model and Understanding by Design frameworks
* Lead hands-on laboratory sessions with strong emphasis on safety protocols
* Use formative and summative assessments to measure conceptual understanding
* Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs
* Integrate Islamic values into classroom culture and daily interactions
* Collaborate with colleagues on vertical curriculum alignment
* Participate in professional development initiatives
* Maintain regular communication with families and school leadership
* Sponsor co-curricular activities including Science Fair and STEM clubs###
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Science or Science Education (Master's preferred)
* Prior middle or high school teaching experience strongly preferred
* Demonstrated experience with inquiry-based approaches, NGSS frameworks, and concept-based learning
* Strong science content knowledge and laboratory safety competency
* Familiarity with Islamic educational philosophy
* Excellent classroom management using restorative practices
* Strong communication and instructional technology skills
