Job Description
WSP is initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Experienced P&C Field Services Technician for project locations in Maine, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with the PTE Team and support electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.

Your Impact
- Perform assigned testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations
- Perform on-site protective relay testing using relay test sets (e.g., Omicron CMC 256/356, Doble F6150); relays may include SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60, among others
- Use field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activities
- Perform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed
- Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects
- Escalate complex technical problems or unexpected field conditions to the site lead or project manager
- Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols
- Communicate progress, field observations, and potential delays to the project team
- Review the work of less experienced technicians for quality and accuracy, providing informal guidance as needed
- Maintain attention to detail when filling out logs, photo documentation, and label entries
- Collaborate with other technicians to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standards
- Assist in monitoring subcontractor performance and activities and report observations to field leadership
- Perform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience with medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing
- Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families) and protective schemes
- Technical skills related to protective relays including relay calibration using test sets/measuring devices (Omicron CMC 256/356, Doble F6150), control scheme testing, CT/PT circuit testing, uploading settings to microprocessor relays, and static/dynamic testing of microprocessor-based relays
- Experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures (NETA, IEEE, NFPA)
- Knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers
- Experience using testing software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings
- Ability to identify routine field challenges and equipment issues, with escalation for atypical conditions
- Skilled in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reports
- Physical stamina for outdoor and physically demanding work
