Drafter II

Responsibilities

• Create detailed drawings and models from verbal and written specifications that are obtained from the Designer, Project Leader, Project Engineer or Drafting Manager.
• Research and review drawing files and other sources such as manufacturers catalogs, customer specification sheets and Union Tank Car Design Manual.
• Plan and prepare preliminary designs and specifications, working with both 3D and 2D design, ensuring adherence to company and industry standards.
• Review designs with the engineering team to identify and implement changes or additions to the current design and features.
• Calculate and specify dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials.
• Resolve potential issues and redesign components to improve functionality.
• Develop 2D drawings by analyzing prototypes and 3D models.
• Finalize design by checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to the whole structure or project.
• Ensure the final design complies with regulations and quality standards.
• Prepare and present drawings for final review.
• Maintain project drawing files, associated records and documentation.
• Complete project responsibilities within scope, budget and schedule.
• Provide timely technical assistance and solutions to the team.
• Participate in and actively support quality projects, activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
• Provide a leadership/mentor role to our drafters.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Hands‑on experience with computer‑aided design (CAD) software.
• Familiarity with 3D modeling tools.

• Solid Works and Micro Station software experience.

Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols.

On‑site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with the ability and availability to work overtime as operational needs require.
