Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all accounting and reporting functions. This role plays a critical part in supporting strategic decision-making by delivering timely financial insights, strengthening internal controls, and driving continuous process improvement. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, construction industry experience, and proven leadership abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Operations Management
Oversee all aspects of daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end close. - Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and analyses to support leadership decision-making. - Work-in-Process (WIP) Reporting
Assist the CFO with preparation of WIP reports, reconciliation to the general ledger, and detailed job-level analysis. - Budgeting & Forecasting
Maintain and monitor budgets, prepare variance analyses, and provide insights on financial performance against goals. - Change Orders & Job Costing
Maintain and/or supervise entry of change orders and related budgets in the accounting system; ensure accurate job cost tracking. - Compliance & Taxation
Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and multi-state sales and use tax filings. Support audits and government information requests. - Process Improvement
Evaluate and enhance financial processes, systems, and controls to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. - Team Leadership
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of approximately five accounting professionals; promote high performance and professional growth. - Internal Controls
Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity. - Special Projects
Participate in ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the CFO. - Other Duties
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Construction industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, construction billing, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Experience with construction accounting software and medium-to-large ERP systems.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven leadership and team development capabilities.
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and committed to accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
